Description
This is a 2 credit unit module running in the spring semester of this academic year. It is an optional module for both LLM and JD students. It covers the main principles of international water law and a case study of a selection of international treaties concerning the shared water resources. The course will also examine some leading cases decided by national and international courts concerning water disputes.
It covers the evolution of the international water law, international efforts to regulate the utilization and sharing of the water resources of international watercourses, both soft law and hard law instruments relating to international water law, a selection of bilateral or sub-regional or regional treaties relating to international watercourses, and the case law developed by various national and international courts and tribunals.
The aim is to provide a thorough understanding of International Water Law and the interplay between law and politics in this area.
