In “You Are Not American: Citizenship Stripping from Dred Scott to the Dreamers” Amanda Frost, Ann Loeb Bronfman Distinguished Professor of Law and Government, draws on narratives of those who have struggled to be treated as full members of “We the People,” exposing a hidden history of discrimination and xenophobia that continues to this day.

What we saw occur in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, shook many of us to our core. Although it was not unique – as the Washington Post reported, “not since the British set fire to the Capitol in 1814 has a mob overrun the ultimate symbol of American freedom” – it was highly unusual and, frankly, appalling. As President-elect Biden said: “This is not dissent, it’s disorder. It’s chaos, it borders on sedition, and it must end now.”

On Sunday, Dec. 13, American University Washington College of Law held a live commencement celebration on Zoom to honor its 2020 graduates.

American University Washington College of Law congratulates Professor Susan Bennett, who has been selected as a co-recipient of the 2020 William Pincus Award from the Association of American Law Schools Section on Clinical Legal Education. 

Cynthia Goode Works ’92 was selected as a "Top Lawyer" by Washingtonian Magazine in the criminal defense category. The list is featured, along with 16 other practice areas, in the December issue of the magazine and will be available online Jan. 1. Works is the only African American female attorney from the State of Maryland to be recognized in the criminal defense category.
