Dedicated to the advancement of rights around the globe, this year’s Pro Bono Excellence Award recipient Marcela Velarde ’21 devoted her hundreds of hours of pro bono legal work at various human rights organizations focused on the protection of asylum-seekers, refugees, and survivors of human trafficking.

Looking to hone her legal research and writing skills, 2L Kristina Woodward wanted a summer experience where she could gain a greater understanding of the judicial decision-making process – and found it interning for the Honorable Reggie Walton ’74. 

American University Washington College of Law celebrated more than 500 graduates May 23 with a virtual ceremony and the law school’s first in-person commencement events since the COVID-19 pandemic began. The ceremony honored graduates from May 2021 and December and August 2020.
