The American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL) has responded to the Attorney General’s call to action in a number of important ways.  Student attorneys participating in our Clinical Program have engaged in eviction defense and housing security work through our Civil Advocacy Clinic, Community Economic and Equity Development Law Clinic, Gender Justice Clinic, Intellectual Property Clinic, International Human Rights Law Clinic, Criminal Justice Clinic, and Rising for Justice Clinic.  AUWCL students also have externed with organizations such as Bread for the City and the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless, providing countless unpaid hours in support of local anti-eviction direct legal services.  In addition, our Office of Public Interest is hosting a “Teach-in on the Eviction Crisis and Housing (In)Justice in DC,” featuring three AUWCL alumna at the forefront of anti-eviction efforts and providing anti-eviction training for AUWCL students. 

American University Washington College of Law is excited to welcome a talented and diverse group of over 350 1L students to the law school community for the 2021-22 academic year.

Assistant Dean for Adjunct Affairs William Snape recently caught up with alum and adjunct Victoria Ernst ’19, who co-taught the law school’s summer course on the United Nations International Law Commission with Dean Emeritus and Professor Claudio Grossman.

American University Washington College of Law welcomed its newest members to DC and the AUWCL campus this week for JD Orientation, bringing together 1L students to meet new law school Dean Roger A. Fairfax, volunteer throughout the local community, and hear from DC At-Large Councilmember Robert White.

The Center for Human Rights & Humanitarian Law is thrilled to support several opportunities for student-led research on various issues within the human rights field. These opportunities contributed to the development of international norms with projects supporting the Center’s work in anti-torture, the criminalization of homelessness in the U.S., human rights and finance, and women’s rights.
