For the past 25 years, the Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law has worked with students, academics, practitioners, and activists to provide scholarship and support for human rights initiatives around the world. This year, the Center will celebrate its 25th Anniversary with a daylong conference on April 12 with expert panel discussions examining the role of law schools in promoting and protecting human rights.

On March 30, the War Crimes Research Office (WCRO) celebrated its 20th anniversary with a conference titled, “Prosecuting Serious International Crimes: Exploring the Intersections between International and Domestic Justice Efforts.” David Tolbert, president for the International Center for Transitional Justice delivered the keynote speech.

On April 5, American University Washington College of Law hosted the Secretary General M. Luis Almagro and Secretary of Legal Affairs Jean-Michel Arrighi of the Organization of American States along with dignitaries from throughout North and South America for a discussion of the book La OEA y el Derecho Internacional and the role of the organization in human rights, development, and security in the Americas. 

The U.S. Department of State, the Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Program, American University Washington College of Law, and the University of Minnesota Law School are hosting an innovative conference, Wednesday, April 6, 2016 that will bring together professionals, advocates, academics, public policymakers and practitioners working on women’s rights in the Global South. 

From March 31 to April 1, the law school hosted the 20th Meeting of the International Telecommunications Satellite Organization’s (ITSO) Advisory Committee. Comprised of 23 of the 149 Parties to the ITSO Agreement, the Advisory Committee convenes between ITSO’s Assembly of Parties and gives advice and feedback to the Director General of ITSO between Assembly of Parties.
