American University Washington College of Law is now able to offer expanded Yellow Ribbon Program (YRP) tuition assistance to qualifying veterans. With the full support of administrators, including Dean Claudio Grossman, AUWCL removed the cap on assistance to support an unlimited number of students with free tuition, in conjunction with the Post-9/11 GI Bill and the matched Yellow Ribbon funds. 

American University Washington College of Law will welcome United States Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch as our 2016 Commencement speaker. The law school’s commencement will be held Sunday, May 22, and Attorney General Lynch will be presented with an honorary doctor of laws degree at the ceremony.

On April 12, President Obama announced the renaming of the Sewall-Belmont House and Museum to the Belmont-Paul Women’s Equality National Monument. The designation honors Alva Belmont, benefactor of the National Woman’s Party, and Washington College of Law class of 1922 alumna Alice Paul, founder of the Party.

Second-year evening student Miranda Dore has been named a 2016 Akin Gump Pro Bono Scholar. She is one of four Scholars in Washington, DC, nine nationwide, selected from a pool of over 200 applicants nationwide, and the first to be selected from AUWCL. Miranda will work at the Children’s Law Center this summer. Started in 2008, the Akin Gump Pro Bono Scholars Program is a two-summer program for top law students who show a strong interest in making pro bono an integral part of their Akin Gump careers.

On April 12, Sanya Sukduang '99, partner at Finnegan, hosted Dean Grossman, AUWCL faculty, and alumni at the intellectual property law firm's Washington, DC offices. The DC alumni networking reception was held to celebrate the recent promotions and service of four of the law school's faculty.
