Judge Timothy Dyk spent October 19 -21, 2017 at the law school as part of the Jurist-in-Residence Program. He reflected on the specialized role of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C., on which he has been a judge for 17 years.

AUWCL, in conjunction with the Kay Spiritual Life Center, is holding a special re-enactment of Martin Luther’s appeal before the Holy Roman Empire, with three United States Court of Appeals judges presiding.  D.C. Circuit Judges David S. Tatel, Cornelia T.L. Pillard and Robert L. Wilkins will hear arguments from two AUWCL students in the Weinstein Moot Court Room on Tuesday, Oct. 17.

Expert trainers, faculty, judges, court administrators, and advocates are gathering in East Lansing, Mich., Oct. 13, 2017, to kick-off a new six-state judicial training project. The new judicial network is being formed to train state courts to address federal immigration law and policy changes that arise in family and juvenile cases on the state level, and ensure that critical and complex legal issues are correctly addressed. 

On Thursday, Oct. 12, Professor Jennifer Daskal, an expert in national security law, is testifying before the House Subcommittee on Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection on “21st Century Trade Barriers: Protectionist Cross Border Data Flow Policies' Impact on U.S. Jobs.”

On Oct. 4, the Program on Law & Government at American University Washington College of Law hosted its inaugural AUWCL Federal Government General Counsels Reception. The 70 attendees included current and former federal government general counsel and AUWCL faculty, staff, and students.
