From October 26-28, American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL) hosted the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Comparative Law (ASCL). AUWCL Professors Padideh Ala’i and Fernanda Nicola, along with Professor Maximo Langer of UCLA Law organized the two-day conference that attracted more than one hundred participants. This year's conference theme was “Comparative Law, Faith, and Religion: The Role of Faith in Law.”

Founded in 1999 by two visionary American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL) faculty members, Jamin Raskin and Stephen Wermiel, The Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project has grown exponentially to become a nationally recognized law-related education initiative with chapters in 19 law schools. The program promotes civic engagement and constitutional literacy by placing talented and dedicated upper-level law students in high school classrooms to teach courses in constitutional law and oral advocacy.

On Nov. 10, 2017, leading scholars and experts on the criminal justice system gathered at AUWCL for the American University Law Review (AULR) annual symposium, “Anatomy of Justice:  An Honest Conversation on the Criminal Justice System in 2017.” The program included panels on the juvenile justice system, the death penalty, racial disparities in the criminal justice system, and bail bonds and fines reform.

AUWCL Faculty Take Part in World Bank Group's "Law, Justice, and Development Week 2017"

American University Washington College of Law Professors Fernanda Nicola and Macarena Saez are participating in panel discussions Monday and Tuesday as part of the World Bank Group’s “Law, Justice, and Development Week 2017,” a high-level conference with an expected attendance of more than 1,300 people for the week. In addition, AUWCL is hosting “A Conversation on Gender, Development, and Public Service,” at the law school Tuesday evening.  This will be the first time part of the World Bank Group’s Law and Development Week conference will be held at AUWCL.
