On Thursday, Feb. 8, the Program on Law and Government hosted a panel on Careers in Government Contracts. The speakers, Kathleen A. Murphy, Jim Weiner ’86, and Dana-Marie Akpan explained the career options in government contracts and the different career paths available.

On January 26, 2018, the American University Law Review (AULR) was honored to host its annual Federal Circuit Symposium. The Federal Circuit Symposium is the nation’s first and only academic symposium that is dedicated exclusively to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

For three hours on Thursday, Jan. 25, American University Washington College of Law’s Grossman Hall became home base for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, as oral arguments in two cases were presented before a three judge panel.

On Jan. 18, Walter Shaub ’96 addressed a packed audience in Claudio Grossman Hall with“An Ethics Agenda for 2018.” Shaub, who was appointed director of the Office of Government Ethics by President Obama in January 2013 and resigned from that post in July 2017, is senior director, ethics, at the Campaign Legal Center, a leading nonpartisan NGO dedicated to protecting and strengthening democratic processes across all levels of government.

On Wednesday, Jan. 24, over 150 organizations participated in American University Washington College of Law’s Spring Externship Fair. This annual event creates opportunities for students to network, interview for externships, and learn about a wide range of practice areas. The Externship Fair, organized by AUWCL’s Externship Program, is the largest single-school legal externship fair of its kind in the country, and many students obtain externships directly as a result of having attended the event.
