UNCITRAL briefing with Anna Joubin-Bret: The Past Present and Future of the Reform of Investor-State Dispute Resolution

04:00PM - 05:15PM Online via zoom

With the rise in globalization and international investment -- and treaties protecting that investment -- there has been an increase in the number of treaty-based claims that investors bring against states. Given the ongoing debate about this expanding area of international dispute settlement, the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), particularly UNCITRAL's Working Group III, is actively involved in exploring procedural reform in these disputes between investors and states (ISDS).

Anna Joubin-Bret, who leads UNCITRAL's efforts, has graciously volunteered to provide an update on where UNCITRAL is in its process and the pathway forward. Attendees are invited to gather virtually at American University, Washington College of Law for a presentation by Ms. Joubin-Bret, to be followed by a conversation moderated by Professor Susan Franck, the author of Arbitration Costs: Myths and Realities in Investment Treaty Arbitration.
