Law Student Pro Bono Training: The Veterans Consortium

Do you care about Veterans? Looking for a Pro-Bono opportunity? Join the Office of Public Interest for an Information Session about the Veteran's Pro Bono Legal Clinic.

The Veterans Consortium (TVC), the Neighborhood Legal Services Program (NLSP), and the Washington DC VA Medical Center are partnering with American University Washington College of Law and local corporate counsel legal departments to staff The Veterans Pro Bono Legal Clinic every Friday.

Every student volunteer must commit at least one 3.5-hour shift, beginning at 9:30 a.m. or 12:30 p.m.*

Student volunteers collect client data for triage and conduct issue spotlighting and legal referrals in the following practice areas:


• Veterans Law • Military Discharge Upgrade Matters
• Family Law • Consumer Law • Landlord /Tenant Law
• Employment Law • Benefits Claims

Volunteers must complete the training provided by pro bono
attorneys on hand at the Center before each session.

Colombia's Groundbreaking Transitional Justice: A Conversation with the Hon. Judge Julieta Lemaitre and Professor Juan Mendez

After four years of negotiations, Colombia signed a Peace Agreement with the FARC-EP, ending a fifty-year war. The Peace Agreement included the groundbreaking design for a transitional justice system, the Special Jurisdiction for Peace, which must try both former guerrilla members and members of the Colombian Armed Forces accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity.  Join Julieta Lemaitre, a judge at the Justice Chambers of the Special Jurisdiction for Peace, and Professor Juan Mendez, for a roundtable discussion on this groundbreaking and ambitious attempt to adopt restorative justice measures, while preserving victims' rights to truth, justice and reparations.
