Magdalena Pacholska

Research Fellow

Dr. Magdalena (Magda) Pacholska is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Asser Institute (The Hague), University of Amsterdam, and a member of an interdisciplinary team of the DILEMA project on Designing International Law and Ethics into Military Artificial Intelligence. She is the recipient of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions individual postdoctoral fellowship, one of the Europe's most competitive and well-renowned awards, aimed at supporting the best and most promising scientists.

Before joining Asser, Magda worked as a legal adviser at the Polish General Command of the Armed Forces, where she focused on the legal aspects of interoperability in combined joint operations. Her previous experiences include working at two EU home and justice agencies, as well as the UN International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. She has been a visiting scholar at the Free University of Berlin, and the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for International, European and Regulatory International Law.

Magda obtained her Ph.D. in Law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She also holds an LL.M. in International Criminal Law from the University of Amsterdam (joint program with Columbia Law School), a first degree in Law from the University of Warsaw and an MA in National Security from the Polish National Defense University. Her research interests include emerging and disruptive military technologies, law of armed conflict, (post)wartime accountability and international legal theory.
