PIJIP council Jonathan Band has updated his book “Interfaces on Trial 3.0: Google v. Oracle America and Beyond” and is now available for free download.

Band’s updated version contains extensive discussion regarding the Supreme Court’s April 5, 2021, decision in the case Google LLC v. Oracle America, Inc and its impact on software interoperability.

Interfaces on Trial 3.0 is the third volume of his book on history of software copyright law with regards to interface disputes.

This book picks up in 2010 where the previous volume, Interfaces on Trial 2.0 , left off, examining the stages of the Google v. Oracle America litigation in detail.

The book examines other U.S. judicial decisions touching upon interoperability, mainly relating to Section 1201 of the DMCA as well as the interoperability-related exemptions granted by the Librarian of Congress in the Section 1201 triennial rulemakings.

The book also examines international developments, most notably the CJEU’s 2012 decision in SAS Institute v. World Programming.

The final version of Interfaces on Trial 3.0: Google v. Oracle America and Beyond is now available for free download here.
