LLM Student Highlight: Keren Yang Meets with Former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

Keren Yang, an LLM student in IP, has been selected as a Graduate Fellow of the United Nations Association of the National Capital Area in 2021. Keren participates in academic sessions that explore global challenges faced by the UN and its member states by engaging in vibrant discussions with distinguished scholars, high-ranking government officials, and senior professionals from international organizations. Keren said, “It has been a great opportunity for me to realize the potential of IP law in solving many of the global issues, and I am so proud to study at one of the top IP programs in the U.S.”

Recently, Keren had the great privilege of meeting with former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in person in his office as a UNA Graduate Fellow. It was a rare opportunity to have a conversation with former Secretary-General Ban and hear about his dedication and efforts on climate change and women’s empowerment. Keren shared her vision for helping people in developing countries as a specialized legal professional in IP and also as a musician.

“I was very impressed by Secretary-General Ban’s strong commitment to making the world a better place and grateful for his kind encouragement for achieving my lifelong goals of supporting underprivileged people around the world.” She said. 

Keren is a pianist and composer and currently studying Copyright at WCL. She is particularly interested in music copyright and international development.
