“Frame the Lawyers 2019” - Call for Artwork Created by Attorneys

Juried Exhibition: April 26 – June 2, 2019
American University’s Washington College of Law

On Friday, April 26, 2019, Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts (WALA) and the Program on Information, Justice and Intellectual Property, American University, Washington College of Law, will host the opening reception for “Frame the Lawyers 2019”, a juried gallery exhibition to showcase artwork created by attorneys. Photography, painting, sculpture, mixed media and more will be considered for this exhibition. Entries will be accepted from practicing and retired attorneys as well as law students. “Frame the Lawyers 2019” will be juried by a panel of member artists and attorneys from Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts.

Submission Requirements

You may submit up to four (4) images for one $60 fee. Each additional image will be $10. All entries must be submitted electronically in JPG format only. Email your images along with the completed form below to director@waladc.org. Please label the form as LastName_FirstName. Payment may be made via WALA’s secure website https://waladc.org/donate.

Images should be sized no larger than 72dpi, and less than 1 megabite in file size. Image file names must include artist’s last name and title of the piece in the following format: ArtistLastName_ImageTitle.jpg. For example: “daVinci_MonaLisa.jpg”

Entries are due by Midnight, April 5 for jurying.

Accepted artists will be notified via email by April 8, and work must be delivered to American University Washington College of Law by 4:00 pm on April 22.

All accepted work must be properly matted, framed, and wired for hanging – gallery wrapped canvases will also be accepted with clean, neat edges. As with any juried exhibition the jury may select any, one, all, or none of your entered images. The decision of the jury is final. Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts will charge a 30% commission on all gallery sales. Please note whether the works are for sale, and the retail price for each.

Because this show is a fundraiser for Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts, the night will also feature a silent auction and sponsorship opportunities. Please email director@waladc.org for more information.

  • Deadline for Submissions and Payment: April 5, by 11:59 pm
  • Notification of Accepted Work: April 8
  • Delivery of Artwork to American University April 22: by 4:00 pm
  • Opening Reception April 26: from 6-8:00 pm
  • Pick-up After Exhibit: June 2 – June 4, Between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm
