Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property

PIJIP was delighted to host a fascinating discussion about the proposed sale of the .ORG Registry at American University Washington College of Law (WCL) on Tuesday, 2/11.  Our speakers were Andrew Sullivan, President and CEO of the Internet Society (ISOC), Mitch Stoltz, Senior Staff Attorney with the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Professor Benjamin Leff of WCL who teaches and researches the law of charitable and nonprofit organizations, and Marc Rotenberg, President and Executive Director of the Electronic Privacy Information Center and an early chair of the Public Interest Registry (PIR).

Professor Jennifer Daskal received the Edwin A. Mooers Scholars award at the annual Faculty Scholarship Awards. This award was established in 1985 in honor of former Professor Mooers, for support to an AUWCL faculty member in any area of law.

Professor and Associate Dean for Scholarship Jonas Anderson received the Edwin A. Mooers Scholars award. This award was established in 1985 in honor of former Professor Mooers, for support to an AUWCL faculty member in any area of law.

On January 13, 2020, the Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property (PIJIP) held a panel to discuss the oral arguments presented to the U.S. Supreme Court of a long-fought trademark battle between Lucky Brand Dungarees Inc. and Marcel Fashion Group, Inc. 

Professor Christine Haight Farley taught an intensive one week course on Design Protection at the Cuban Office of Industrial Property in Havana, Cuba. The course was composed of 40 attorneys who work at the Cuban IP office, at IP firms, as in house counsel, and at other government agencies.

On November 5th, the Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property (PIJIP) held its second event of the "Intellectual Property at the Supreme Court" series.
