Panelists at the June 9th PIJIP-Wikimedia RightsCon panel discussed the impact of inadequate copyright rules on access to and use of educational materials in digital setting.  They described how new legal instruments at the international level could solve these problems and facilitate access to knowledge.  

Sean Flynn, Director of American University’s Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property, was interviewed onMay 22nd on the KPFK Evening News. He discussed the proposed "TRIPS waiver" under debate at the World Trade Organization (WTO).

PIJIP is pleased to announced the next Research paper in the PIJIP/TLS Working Paper Series. Reforming the Right to Remuneration in the South African Copyright Amendment Bill, is by Malebakeng Agnes Forere, Associate Professor at the University of the Witwatersrand.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Andrés Izquierdo as a Senior Research Analyst in the Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property (PIJIP). He will join our project working to define and implement rights to research within international copyright law and policy.

Today educators, researchers, libraries, academics and other advocates praised President Biden, USTR Ambassador Katherine Tai and the Administration for formally supporting the WTO TRIPS waiver, including for copyright. 

PIJIP is pleased to announce that effective April 20, 2021, it has assumed stewardship of the Open COVID Pledge. The Open COVID Pledge was conceived by a volunteer steering committee in March 2020 and launched on April 7, 2020. Since then, an estimated 500,000 patents and multiple copyrights have been publicly pledged to the COVID-19 response. The Open COVID Pledge was hosted and stewarded by Creative Commons during its first year of operation.
