AUWCL Hosts Panel Discussion on Poland's Anti-Constitutional Backslide

On February 5, 2020, American University Washington College of Law hosted the first workshop of the Comparative Law Initiative in Washington, DC (CLIW) co-sponsored by GW and George Mason Law Schools on the topic of Poland’s Anti-Constitutional Backslide. The lecture focused on Wojciech Sadurski’s new book Poland’s Constitutional Breakdown, which is the first book-length case study on the Polish context and critique of its newly established illiberal democracy. The panelists included Herman Schwartz, Professor of Law Emeritus at AUWCL; Wojciech Sadurski, Challis Professor of Jurisprudence, the University of Sydney & Visiting Professor of Law at Yale Law School; Mark Graber, Professor of Constitutional Law at University of Maryland Carey School of Law; and Francesca Bignami, Professor of Law at George Washington University Law School.

The Abuses of the Au Pair Program Exposed: Warnings of AUWCL Professor Chuang Finally Resonate with Courts

Professor Janie Chuang has recently seen her research and warnings of the possible abuses of the au pair program in the United States resonate with the courts and reflect in new trends in case law. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit recognized in December 2, 2019 judgment that the au pair program has to adhere to minimum wage standards in force in the state of Massachusetts. The court recognized what Prof. Chuang already demanded in a 2013 article published in the Harvard Journal of Law & Gender.
