Seventh Spanish Language Moot Arbitration Competition Held Virtually

On May 18-21, the Center on International Commercial Arbitration hosted the VII International Investment Moot Arbitration Competition. The event was originally scheduled for the week of March 16, and postponed to this week due to the COVID-19 crisis. Eight of the 12 registered teams accepted the challenge of presenting their arguments online. This moot competition is conducted solely in Spanish to promote the study of International Investment Law and Arbitration as its preferred dispute resolution mechanism.

On March 7, 2022, the Center on International Commercial Arbitration hosted a conference on the occasion of the opening of the IX Competencia de Arbitraje Internacional de Inversión (Ninth Investment Arbitration Moot Competition). The extensive program featured prominent arbitration practitioners, such as Dyalá Jiménez Figueres, Partner at DJ Arbitraje, Katherine González Arrocha, Independent Arbitrator, Jean-Paul Dechamps, Partner at Dechamps Law, Marianela Bruno Pollero, Counsel at UNCITRAL, and Martin Doe Rodríguez, Senior Legal Counsel at the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA). The speakers were introduced by Professor, Horacio A. Grigera Naón, Director of the Center on International Commercial Arbitration.

The Washington College of Law Annual International Commercial Arbitration Lecture, provides a public forum to present and discuss current issues and trends in international Commercial and Investment arbitration. The 2005 inaugural lecture was presented by Gerald Aksen and since then on, has featured the world’s foremost experts in international commercial and investment arbitration. The Arbitration Annual Lecture seeks to contribute to the development of scholarship and honor individuals who have distinguished themselves in the field.   The 2020 Annual Lecture was presented by Professor Emmanuel Gaillard, Partner,  Shearman & Sterling.
