During the 67th session of the UN Committee against Torture (CAT), Professor Diego Rodríguez-Pinzón, co-director of the Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, participated in the consideration of the seventh periodic report of Greece on State party efforts to comply with provisions in the Convention against Torture. The meeting was held from July 24-25, 2019, in Geneva. Professor Rodríguez-Pinzón, Committee Co-Rapporteur for Greece, stated his concern regarding text in the new Greek penal code that, according to the Committee, makes it incompatible with the Convention against Torture. Among other statements, Professor Rodríguez-Pinzón questioned the lack of implementation of legal safeguards, and requested clarification on the status of the Criminal Procedure Code, as well as on the steps being taken to combat gender-based violence. Videos of Professor Rodríguez-Pinzón's comments on July 24 and July 25 can be found in the links.
