As part of American University's Washington College of Law Annual Alumni Reunion Weekend events, on Friday September 24, 2021, the Business Law Program hosted a roundtable discussion with three WCL alums who are legal leaders in the exploding virtual currency and blockchain industry.

On Wednesday, June 30, Associate Professor Hilary Allen testified before a House Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Financial Institutions Hearing on “Addressing Climate as a Systemic Risk: The Need to Build Resilience within Our Banking and Financial System.” The hearing, held in a hybrid format, featured experts from different parts of the financial sector who addressed climate-related financial challenges.

On Thursday, May 20, 2021, AUWCL faculty and WCL’s Business Law Program hosted “Talking Fintech with Benjamin Lawsky, Former Superintendent, New York Department of Financial Services.” With an introduction by Professor V. Gerard Comizio, Associate Director, Business Law Program, and moderated by Professor Hilary J. Allen, the conversation covered the hottest topics in fintech today, including fintech regulation, the sector’s impact on financial industry culture, the use of technological tools for regulatory compliance, cybersecurity vulnerabilities in fintech business models, and more.

On Tuesday, March 2, American University Washington College of Law hosted an interview with U.S. Securities and Exchange Commissioner Hester M. Peirce and AUWCL faculty on the exciting developments under the federal securities laws governing financial technology and virtual currency.

The Business Law Program at American University Washington College of Law is pleased to announce an innovative Compliance and Ethics Certificate (CEC).  Covering one of the fastest growing areas of business law,  the Compliance and Ethics Certificate enables students with a special interest in business law to earn a certificate that provides a core competency and a deeper understanding of compliance laws and regulations. Students will learn how to adopt and implement successful corporate compliance strategies as they acquire knowledge and skills in the legal, regulatory, and ethical framework undergirding compliance.
