Professor Daniel Bradlow

Professor Bradlow specializes in international economic law. His current scholarship focuses on the international and comparative law of sustainable and equitable development, international financial institutions, and the legal aspects of debt and financial management. He teaches two seminars: Selected Issues in International Business Law; and International Finance Law & Development Finance.

He is a Senior Special Fellow in the Legal Aspects of Debt and Financial Management Programme of United National Institute on Training and Research (UNITAR). He has been a consultant to this project for ten years. He also serves as an advisor to the Rethinking Bretton Woods Project and to a project on the Global Financial Architecture. During 1999-2000 he was a consultant to the World Dams Commission, for whom he directed an eleven country study on the international and comparative law aspects of large dam projects, and whom he advised on regulatory and compliance issues. In 1996 he was a visiting professor at the Community Law Centre at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa. In addition, he has lectured in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Prior to joining WCL, Professor Bradlow was a research associate at the International Law Institute, a consultant to the United Nations Centre on Transnational Corporations, and an attorney in private practice. He has written a book: Regulatory Framework for Dam Safety: A Comparative Study and Recommendations. He also has edited three books: International Borrowing: Negotiating and Structuring International Debt Transactions; Judicial Enforcement of International Debt Obligations; and Legal Aspects of Foreign Direct Investment. He has published many articles on international financial law, the international financial institutions, foreign investment, the World Bank Inspection Panel, and the changing responsibilities of the World Bank and the IMF in the management of the global economy. Professor Bradlow holds degrees from the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa, Northeastern University and Georgetown University (DC), and is a member of the New York and the District of Columbia Bars.

Claire Shoolin is the International Programs Coordinator at WCL.  She helps to coordinate the Humphrey Fellowship and the International Visiting Scholars Programs. Originally a native of Chicago, she graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Cultural Studies, and speaks Spanish and basic Italian.  Claire is currently a Master’s candidate in the International Training and Education Program at American University.  You can reach her at 202-274-4391 or cshoolin@wcl.american.edu, or you can come by in person to the 4910 building.  Either way, she looks forward to meeting you!

Rega Jabar

Rega is a graduate student at American University’s School of International Service, concentrating in Peace and Conflict Resolution with a focus on US – Middle Eastern Relations. Born in Kurdistan, Iraq, he was raised in Iran, Syria, and Russia before coming to the US as a refugee at the age of seven.  Recently, he has spent the past year in Amman, Jordan as a Boren Fellow studying Arabic.  Rega is looking forward to working with the Humphrey program this year, so feel free to contact him at (202) 274-4427 or humphrey@wcl.american.edu.
