Diego Rodríguez-Pinzón (J.D., LL.M., S.J.D.) is Professorial Lecturer in Residence and Co-Director of the Academy on Human Rights and Humanitarian Law at American University, Washington College of Law. He teaches courses in the fields of international law and human rights law. His most recent books are The Prohibition of Torture and Ill-treatment in the Inter-American Human Rights System (with Claudia Martin) (2006), published in three languages –English, Spanish and Portuguese--, and Derecho Internacional de los Derechos Humanos (International Human Rights Law), (co-editor), (2004). He co-authored (with Claudio Grossman, Robert K. Goldman and Claudia Martin) the casebook The International Dimension of Human Rights: A Guide for Application in Domestic Law published by the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB 2001). He is also co-author of the human rights casebook bestseller, La Dimensión Internacional de los Derechos Humanos, Guía para la Aplicación de Normas Internacionales en el Derecho Interno (with Claudia Martin and Tomas Ojea Quintana) (IADB, 1999), as well as the Repertorio de Jurisprudencia del Sistema Interamericano de Derechos Humanos, La Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos (Inter-American Human Rights Digest)(with Claudio Grossman, Robert Goldman and Claudia Martin) (Vol. I and Vol. II, 1998). His recent articles include The International Human Rights Status of Elderly Rights (2003), The 'Victim' Requirement, The Fourth Instance Formula and the Notion of 'Person' in the Individual Complaint Procedure of the Inter-American Human Rights System (2001); and Presumption of Veracity, Nonappearance, and Default in the Individual Complaint Procedure of the Inter-American System on Human Rights (1998).

He was recently appointed Ad Hoc Judge to sit in the Inter-American Court on Human Rights of the Organization of American States. As correspondent for the British periodical Butterworths Human Rights Cases, Professor Rodríguez-Pinzón covers the Americas; he also reports on the inter-American system for the Netherlands Human Rights Quarterly. He has served as international legal consultant for the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) and the Organization of American States (OAS), among other institutions. He was also staff attorney at the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights of the OAS and Officer for Latin America at the International Human Rights Law Group, a Washington DC based non-governmental organization. He was legal advisor for the Office of the President of Colombia focused on the economic strategy of the peace negotiations with guerrilla groups from 1989 to 1991.
