Adjunct Instructor Karen Fernandes is an attorney-advisor in the Department of Justice (DOJ), Executive Office for Immigration Review, Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA), where she has worked since 1995. Prior to her position with the BIA, she was in DOJ's Honor's Program for the same agency as a law clerk for an administrative law judge in the Office of the Chief Administrative Hearing Officer. Ms. Fernandes graduated from Pepperdine University, School of Law in 1993, completed her LL.M. in international and comparative law from Georgetown University, School of Law in 1994, and is currently working on her Ph.D. in political theory at Georgetown University. She has been an adjunct instructor in American University's Legal Rhetoric and Writing Program since 2002.
